On 18 December, the first Overseas Training Course on Vegetable Crop Cultivation Technology held in The Gambia concluded successfully. H.E. Liu Jin, Ambassador of the Chinese Embassy, and Mr. Nyangado, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture of The Gambia, attended the closing ceremony and presented certificates to the participants.
Ambassador Liu Jin noted that agricultural cooperation is an important part of China-Gambia relations. For many years, Chinese agricultural experts have worked closely with Gambian partners, carrying out technical cooperation and capacity-building programs aligned with local development needs, and helping train a group of local agricultural professionals. During the period of the 15th Five-Year Plan, China will continue to expand support for The Gambia and other Global South countries, deepen cooperation in capacity building, and contribute to sustainable development.
Permanent Secretary Nyangado spoke highly of China's long-standing support to The Gambia in the agricultural sector. He said that from agricultural cooperation projects and training programs in China to this highly targeted and practical overseas training course, Gambian participants have effectively translated Chinese experience into practical skills. He expressed The Gambia's willingness to further deepen agricultural cooperation with China so that bilateral cooperation outcomes can better promote development and improve people's livelihoods.
The 30-day training program brought together 60 participants from the Ministry of Agriculture, its affiliated institutions, and farms across the country. The expert team from Longping High-Tech focused on key areas including seed production technology, water-saving irrigation, agricultural machinery operation, and vegetable crop cultivation. Through a combination of classroom instruction and field-based practical training, the course systematically shared agricultural technologies and practices tailored to local conditions, with a view to strengthening The Gambia's independent development capacity.
