Construction is quickly progressing at the new Senior Activity Center, Surf & Swim and Fire Stations 1 and 7.
Fire Station 1, 427 Allen St.:
Construction is advancing steadily across the site of Fire Station 1, pictured. Crews have begun laying concrete blocks for the storm shelter, marking a key milestone in the project's vertical build. Piers have been drilled at the dumpster pad and throughout parking areas to support future light pole installations, while excavation and formwork are underway for the grade beams at the dumpster pad - critical steps toward ensuring long-term structural integrity.
The mock-up wall has been completed and will serve as a visual reference for final design decisions. Additionally, sidewalk installation along Avenue B and Avenue D on the east side of the site is nearly complete, improving accessibility and preparing the area for future use.
Fire Station 7, 1910 Pleasant Valley Road:
Strong momentum is also evident in the construction on Fire Station 7. Two paving sections have been completed around the building, establishing the fire lane and improving emergency access. The concrete slab for the storm shelter and the transformer pad have also been poured, marking important structural milestones.
On the west side of the site, crews are assembling formwork, while masonry work has begun on the east demising wall within the apparatus bays. With vertical construction now underway, the new station is beginning to take shape above ground - bringing the project one step closer to serving Garland's first responders and community.
Surf & Swim, 440 W. Oates Road:
Steady progress continues at Surf & Swim, with several major construction milestones underway across the site. Stone cladding and the exterior insulation and finish system have been completed on the walls of the administration and concession building, adding both texture and long-term durability to the facility's design.
Crews are actively drilling and pouring concrete piers to support the installation of future water slides. On the lazy river island, steel reinforcement has been set and prepared for upcoming concrete placement. The Surf Rider foundation is also advancing, with formboards and reinforcement in place for the next concrete pour.
Additionally, the steel frames for the shade structures have been successfully installed, bringing visible definition to the site's future gathering and relaxation areas.
Senior Activity Center, 601 W. Avenue B:
Since the groundbreaking ceremony on Aug. 23, significant progress has been made at the Garland Senior Activity Center construction site. Behind the blue fencing, crews have cleared and graded the area in preparation for the next phase of development. Non-viable trees and outdated landscaping have been carefully removed to make room for new, sustainable growth.
Structural piers have been drilled deep into the ground and reinforced with steel and concrete, establishing a solid foundation for the new facility. Along the west side of the site, excavation for concrete grade beams is complete, with reinforcement already in place.
Throughout November, crews will continue foundation work and the installation of underground wet and dry utilities. The next major milestone - pouring the concrete slabs - is quickly approaching, marking another step forward in delivering a modern, accessible and vibrant space for Garland's senior community.
