Katten announced today that Sports and Sports Facilities Partners Adam Klein and Daniel Render, along with Real Estate Partner Jason Gorczynski, were selected by The Hollywood Reporter for its Top Sports Lawyers list, which recognizes some of the most sought-after attorneys in professional sports.
The recognition underscores the firm's standing as a go-to advisor for various teams, investors and lenders across Major League Baseball (MLB), National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Soccer (MLS), National Hockey League (NHL), National Football League (NFL), Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) and National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), and reflects the role Katten's Sports and Sports Facilities practice, led by Co-Chairs Adam and Daniel, has played in several of the biggest recent deals in sports business.
This distinction comes on the heels of Daniel advising Apollo Sports Capital on regulatory matters in connection with its $2.6 billion financing agreement with Yankee Global Enterprises, the holding company of the New York Yankees. Among Katten's high-profile recent sports deals, Adam advised the Chicago White Sox on an investment agreement giving Justin Ishbia a path to a future controlling interest in the team. Adam and Sports and Sports Facilities Partner Josh Lewis counseled Penner Sports Group on its investment in the Colorado Rockies. Adam and Jason, co-lead partner of Real Estate Investment and Finance for the Midwest Region, represented Inter Miami CF in financing its new 26,700-seat stadium at Miami Freedom Park. They are also representing the joint venture behind The 1901 Project, a multi-phase mixed-use redevelopment anchored by the United Center. Daniel also advised Blue Owl HomeCourt Partners on its purchase of a minority stake in the Cleveland Cavaliers and represented Marc Zahr and the Chaifetz Group, significant investors in the buyer group that acquired the Portland Trail Blazers. Adam, Daniel and Josh are also representing the Athletics on a capital raise for a new Las Vegas stadium.
The honor follows the group's 2021 recognition as Sports Business Journal "Power Players: Outside Counsel," Adam's and Daniel's inclusion on last year's Hollywood Reporter list, Daniel's spots on Law360's 2022 Rising Stars and the Sports Business Journal Forty Under 40 (2023), and Adam's Law360 Sports MVP recognition.
