Sen. Ossoff Working to Expand Access to Clean Water in Rural Georgia

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is supporting bipartisan legislation to improve access to clean drinking water in rural Georgia.

Sen. Ossoff is co-sponsoring a bipartisan bill to make it easier for rural communities to upgrade their water infrastructure and protect health by removing harmful contaminants.

The bipartisan bill, led by Sens. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Susan Collins (R-ME), would allow states to request Federal assistance on behalf of communities with fewer than 10,000 residents and private well owners.

"Every Georgian deserves clean drinking water. This bipartisan bill will help improve access to clean drinking water for Georgians," Sen. Ossoff said.

Sen. Ossoff continues working to ensure Georgians have clean drinking water.

Last month, Sen. Ossoff cosponsored the bipartisan Rural Water System Disaster Preparedness and Assistance Act to improve water infrastructure systems across rural Georgia.

In 2024, Sen. Ossoff delivered over $36 million through the bipartisan infrastructure law for lead pipe replacement projects across Georgia.

In 2022, Sen. Ossoff passed into law the Chattahoochee River Act, a first-of-its-kind law that authorizes the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to work on water projects up and down the Chattahoochee River throughout the state of Georgia.

In November 2021, President Biden signed Sen. Ossoff's provision to repair and remove lead water pipes from public schools into law.
