Marquette County Road 492 detoured for roundabout project beginning July 6

ISHPEMING, Mich. - Marquette County Road (CR) 492 will be closed and detoured beginning July 6 as part of the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) project converting the M-35/CR 492 intersection in Eagle Mills to a modern roundabout.

CR 492 will be closed to through-traffic from the US-41/CR 492 intersection in Negaunee to just west of the M-35/CR 492 intersection, with traffic detoured onto US-41 to M-35. CR 492 will remain open to local traffic. The detour is expected to be in place for approximately three weeks.

The work is part of the $6.2 million project to rebuild more than 3 miles of M-35 in Marquette County between CR 480 and US-41. Work will include crushing and shaping the existing pavement, new asphalt pavement, widening existing paved shoulders, realigning the M-35/CR 492 intersection and converting it to a roundabout, grading, and tree clearing at various locations for safety improvements.

Work started in early May and is expected to be completed in mid-October.

Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 52 jobs.
