Ibrahimović at the UN: Montenegro strongly committed to addressing the issue of missing persons and advancing regional cooperation, reaffirmed support for Ukraine

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović continued his activities within the framework of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, participating in a series of important events and bilateral meetings.

At a high-level event dedicated to missing persons in armed conflicts, Ibrahimović emphasized that the right of families to know the truth is an inalienable human right and a prerequisite for reconciliation and lasting peace. He recalled that Montenegro is still addressing 50 cases of missing persons from the wars of the 1990s, underscoring the country's commitment to further strengthening its legislative and institutional frameworks to ensure reparations and a dignified approach for the families of victims.

He placed special emphasis on the importance of regional cooperation and the exchange of information, as well as the role of multilateral mechanisms such as the Berlin Process and the Regional Database on Missing Persons, highlighting them as key instruments in advancing reconciliation.

By participating in the Fifth Summit of the International Crimea Platform, Ibrahimović reaffirmed Montenegro's steadfast support for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine. He underlined that Montenegro's solidarity with Ukraine is both active and principled - expressed through humanitarian assistance, diplomatic engagement, and support for Ukraine's resilience. Montenegro remains firmly aligned with international efforts in condemning Russian aggression and defending international law.

On the margins of the General Debate, Ibrahimović held bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of Mongolia and the Maldives. Together with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia Battsetseg Batmunkh, he signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs, thereby creating opportunities to further strengthen political, economic, and cultural ties between the two countries.

During his meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives Abdulla Shahid both sides expressed readiness to intensify cooperation, particularly in the areas of tourism, culture, and multilateral activities.
