WHEELING, W.Va., October 30 - Wheeling University will offer various health screenings and health services to students, employees and the community during a Health Fair in November.
On Wednesday, Nov. 5, members of the campus and residents of Wheeling are invited to a Health Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Wheeling University Alma Grace McDonough Center lobby. This marks the second straight year the University has hosted the Health Fair.
Dr. Kathy Blatt, assistant professor of Exercise Science said, "This health fair will allow our health science students the chance to provide service to residents in our community. For the greater student populations, the Health Fair will be teach students how to take care of their health now that they are making adult decisions away from home."
Providing this Health Fair is a way to serve not just the campus, but help the local residents take care of all aspects of their health, Blatt added. She invites all members of the community to participate in the many screening that will be offered free of charge.
Students from the Exercise Science, Athletic Training, Nursing and Physical Therapy programs will offer a variety of health screenings and educational tables. Additionally, a dietitian, vision specialist, a hearing professional, WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital, Walk of Life, the Health Plan, the Trinity Team and Northwood Health Systems will participate and offer services to all those who attend.
Services to be provided include: blood pressure checks, vision screenings, nutrition education, posture alignment, grip strength testing, skin screenings, bone health information and much more.
"This is a great opportunity for students, faculty, staff and local residents to take advantage of the many health services offered, or to learn better health habits. All the services offered during the fair will be provided free of charge," she added.
