Beginning after the first of the year, the City of Palm Bay will be conducting a Pavement Condition Index study to better understand the condition of City roadways and help guide future paving decisions, including how we move forward with the GO Roads Paving Program.
Between January and April 30, residents may see a vehicle called IrisPRO Pave driving on City roads. This specialized vehicle uses cameras and sensors to evaluate pavement conditions such as cracks, surface wear, slope, and overall roadway quality while operating like a normal vehicle with little to no traffic disruption.
The study will not include private subdivisions, dirt roads, concrete roads, or local roads within the Compound area.
Regular pavement assessments are an important part of maintaining safe and reliable roads. The data collected helps City engineers prioritize maintenance and repairs, prevent larger issues before they develop, and make responsible use of taxpayer dollars by extending the life of our infrastructure.
Once the assessment is complete, the information gathered will be presented to City Council and used to identify roadway needs and plan future improvements throughout Palm Bay.
