Roads and Bridges Market Sector Leader Scott Bennett, PE, has been elected to the Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America) Board of Directors. In this role, Bennett joins transportation leaders from public agencies and private organizations to help guide the organization's strategic direction and advance innovation and technology across the transportation industry.
Bennett's track record of turning technology into tangible outcomes for travelers and agencies makes his work with ITS America a natural fit. This experience closely aligns with ITS America's focus on advancing the research, development, and scaled deployment of intelligent transportation technologies. Through its members and industry partnerships, the organization brings together the public sector, private industry, academia, and research organizations to address emerging transportation challenges and opportunities.
"Having worked on both the public and private sides of transportation, I've seen the value of bringing different perspectives together to solve complex challenges," said Bennett. "I look forward to contributing that experience to the ITS America Board and working with leaders across the industry to advance innovative, practical solutions for the future of mobility."
As GFT's Roads and Bridges market sector leader, Bennett helps guide the firm's transportation strategy and brings together expertise from across GFT to address the evolving needs of transportation agencies and communities. His service on the ITS America Board provides another opportunity to partner with transportation leaders nationally and contribute to conversations around the innovation and strategies shaping the future of mobility. These connections will also provide insight into emerging technologies, industry priorities, and challenges agencies face nationwide, helping inform how GFT supports its clients.
"Scott brings a valuable perspective to the ITS America Board because he understands the challenges transportation agencies face and how innovation can translate into practical solutions," said Joe Willhite, AICP, Transportation Business Group division president. "His involvement will strengthen GFT's connection to the national transportation conversation and bring insights that help us continue solving our clients' most complex challenges."
Throughout his over 35-year career, Bennett has turned new ideas, technology, and data into practical transportation solutions. Bennett spent three decades with the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ArDOT), rising from an engineering intern to director of the agency, where he led ArDOT's planning, design, operations, and administrative functions. He helped develop ArDOT's concept for iDriveArkansas, which provides real-time traffic, weather, and construction information to drivers. His leadership also included implementing data-driven project selection, developing the state's long-range intermodal transportation plan, and advancing highway safety improvement plans.
Bennett has held key positions with the Transportation Research Board (TRB) and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). From his leadership, he earned the prestigious AASHTO Thomas H. MacDonald Memorial Award.
