JIANGMEN, China, Oct. 13, 2026 - The launch ceremony for "Shenhai Hydrogen Energy No. 1," the world's first semi-submersible wind power hydrogen production platform, was held in Jiangmen, Guangdong. The unit is now undergoing onshore system commissioning ahead of its deployment in the South China Sea.
The platform is China's first project to obtain China Classification Society (CCS) classification and statutory maritime inspection. Designed for the harsh sea conditions and shallow waters off Hainan. It represents an innovative integration of offshore wind power and hydrogen production.
Key technical features include an innovative shallow-water, multi-point disconnectable mooring system designed to withstand 50-year return period sea conditions; dual grid-connected/off-grid power supply and motion suppression technology for uninterrupted PEM electrolyzer operation; 1,000 Nm³/h-class PEM electrolyzers and three hydrogen storage systems for sea-adaptability testing; and a remote monitoring system enabling unattended intelligent operation and maintenance.
The launch is another achievement of CIMC Raffles' independent innovation in marine green new energy equipment and a milestone in its transition from oil and gas equipment to green energy. As a continuation of the company's Yantai Offshore Energy Island Hydrogen-Ammonia-Methanol Integration Pilot Project, the platform strengthens its offshore energy island product line for moving from nearshore to far-sea applications. It also builds technical and operational experience for far-offshore wind power consumption and a strategic green shipping energy supply hub.
By enabling offshore wind-to-hydrogen applications, "Shenhai Hydrogen Energy No. 1" supports efforts to address offshore green power consumption challenges and build a marine new energy industry chain. It is a concrete step in expanding clean marine energy and promoting green, low-carbon development.
Toward the sea for strength, green hydrogen sets sail. This "green ark" is writing a new chapter in marine energy transition with Chinese ingenuity.
