Mission Viejo also selected by Australia, France for 2028 pre-games diving training

Divers from Australia and France will join delegations from the Netherlands and Team USA to conduct their 2028 Pre-Games Training in the City of Mission Viejo as announced today by the Mission Viejo Nadadores Foundation (MVNF).

Nadadores Diving also announced that several of the teams training in 2028 will also conduct training camps in 2026 and 2027.

"One of the best investments our City made decades ago was building a world-class diving facility," said Mission Viejo Mayor Robert Ruesch. "We are so excited to have Dutch, Aussie, French and American divers call Mission Viejo their home away from home in 2028."

As a host city of the bike races in the 1984 LA Olympics to its participation in LA 2028, Mission Viejo and its residents already embrace the excitement of being a part of Olympic competition. The City symbolizes this spirit with an Olympic torch prominently placed on the City seal as well as offering several top-rated facilities. In addition to elevating Mission Viejo on the world's stage, having these athletes from across the globe and Team USA train in Mission Viejo will further enhance the local economy as the athletes and families utilize City hotels, restaurants, stores and more while here.

"What an honor it will be for us to host four of the top diving nations in the world prior to the Los Angeles 2028 Games," said Dr. Michele Mitchell, Executive Director of the Mission Viejo Nadadores who earned her first Olympic medal in Los Angeles at the 1984 LA Games. "The Dr. Ron O'Brien Dive Well will certainly be the hotbed of LA28 pre-games training."

Adrian Hinchliffe, Head Coach & Program Director of Diving Australia, agrees and shares the collective excitement.

"Mission Viejo has world-class facilities providing the perfect environment for our Australian divers to simulate to the LA28 outdoor diving venue prior to the main event and we are already planning our first training camp for 2026 to commence the preparations," Hinchliffe said.

"We have developed a wonderful connection with the Mission Viejo Diving community, and it feels like a 'home away from home' for us and we hope that basing ourselves here will not only support our team leading into LA28 but also cement an ongoing connection with Mission Viejo Diving beyond the games."
