Dome Fire Update, October 6, 2026 (morning)

News Release Date: October 6, 2026

6,806 acres
40% contained
915 personnel

Operational Update

Yesterday, firefighters continued to limit fire growth on the north, west, and southern sides of the fire. Crews working the eastern edge, where fire remains active, made good progress constructing containment lines. Helicopters supported these efforts with 29 missions throughout the day.

Today, building on that progress, crews will continue to monitor and strengthen existing control lines on the north, west, and south, focusing resources on the eastern edge of the fire. Crews are working from both the north and south to complete containment lines on the east side, and using natural features such as large areas of granite as firebreaks where direct engagement is not feasible.

Mule trains continue to play an important role in hauling equipment and supplies to firefighters in remote areas, freeing helicopters to support other firefighting operations. As crews work to contain the fire, helicopters are making water drops as needed to help prevent the fire from reaching or spreading beyond those containment lines.

Weather

High pressure will continue very warm and dry afternoons across the fire area through at least Thursday. Diurnal, terrain driven winds will dominate with nocturnal inversions and good afternoon vertical mixing that will likely peak Thursday and Friday. A low-pressure trough is also likely to begin to affect the West Coast on Friday with an increase in winds that are expected to peak on or about Saturday. Significant cooling is expected this weekend with a slight chance of precipitation early next week, mainly over the mountains.
