Warning issued over scam Council Tax messages

Residents are being warned that the text may ask you to confirm details by going to a scam website which asks you for payment.

If you receive a call or text message do not click on any links, make any payment or provide your bank details, and delete the text message.

How to spot a scam message:

A message is a scam if it:

  • Asks for card or bank details
  • Says that you are entitled to a refund or band reduction
  • Offers to write-off Council Tax arrears for a fee

If you believe you have been a victim of this scam, report the matter online to Action Fraud or call 0300 123 2040.
