ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Clarkson Construction Company, working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, has scheduled northbound Interstate 29 to be narrowed to one lane overnight tonight, April 28, for girder placement on the Gene Field Road Bridge. The contractor will be using short-term rolling closures while crews set the new bridge girders. Access to the ramp from westbound Fredrick Boulevard (Missouri Route 6) onto northbound I-29 will be closed during the rolling closures. Motorists will experience delays.
Traffic Impacts: Northbound I-29 will be narrowed to one lane at the Gene Field Road Bridge construction site from 7 p.m. to 10 a.m. The contractor, in coordination with local law enforcement, will use rolling closures to stop traffic for up to 15 minutes between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. During the rolling closures, the ramp from Fredrick Boulevard (Route 6) to northbound I-29 will be closed. A 10.6-foot width restriction will be in place.
The Gene Field Bridge replacement project will widen the bridge and replace its driving surface as well as add pedestrian sidewalks to the north and south sides of the bridge. This project is scheduled to be completed by July 2026.
