Plastics Europe’s reaction to the End-of-life vehicles Regulation plenary vote

[Brussels, 18 June 2026]

Virginia Janssens, Managing Director at Plastics Europe said:

Today's plenary vote sends an important signal that circularity and industrial policy must go hand in hand. By creating demand for recycled plastics in vehicles, Europe can strengthen its circular economy, reduce dependence on fossil-based materials, and support investment in innovative recycling and circular technologies.

What matters now is speed. Europe cannot afford further delays. Rapid implementation at both EU and national level is essential to provide the regulatory certainty needed to unlock investment in circular plastics at scale and help restore the competitiveness of Europe's manufacturing base.

The End-of-Life Vehicles Regulation is more than an environmental measure, it is an industrial opportunity. Europe now needs to move quickly from political agreement to implementation. Every month of delay risks slowing investment, weakening competitiveness, and postponing the circular economy Europe urgently needs.

We remain committed to working with policymakers and value chain partners to ensure the Regulation delivers both environmental benefits and a stronger, more resilient European industry.
