The Big Hearts for Little Hearts Loma Linda Guild raised over $80,000 for Loma Linda University Children's Hospital at its annual Dishes for Wishes event, which took place on Wednesday, October 1. All of the proceeds will support the Resiliency Institute for Childhood Abuse (RICA), an institute dedicated to providing healing and hope for children affected by abuse.
The "Picnic in the Park" themed event was held at Loma Linda Korean Seventh-day Adventist Church in Redlands and welcomed over 300 guests. The event featured culinary creations from the locally renowned chef Martha Green, along with live music from Swingstreet and artisanal shopping from local vendors.
This was Martha Green's 25th and final year serving as the mistress of ceremonies. Reflecting on her time with Dishes for Wishes, she said, "It is bittersweet to know this is my last year, but these past few years have been extremely rewarding. It's thrilling to make money for such a good cause and to be able to see how many people give so generously."
Over 20 officers from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department and 10 firefighters from the Loma Linda Fire Department volunteered as waitstaff and donated their $2,100 in tips to the Children's Hospital.
"Being able to be a part of an event like this means the most to us," said Deputy Reshawd Cobbs from the Public Affairs division of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
"It's an extraordinary feeling giving back to the community and knowing that we're helping an important cause like the Children's Hospital."
