In case you missed it, U.S. Representative Debbie Dingell (D-MI-06) recently joined Axios Live for a discussion on the state of the healthcare, including the rising healthcare costs Americans are facing after Republicans let crucial tax credits expire, the impacts of the Trump Administration cutting funding to healthcare research, and the landmark legislation Congresswoman Dingell is leading to strengthen home care access and the caregiving workforce.
During the live event, Congresswoman Dingell highlighted how Americans are not just thinking about the high prices of healthcare, but how they're afraid of them when considering the rising cost of living for virtually all daily needs.
"The cost of everything is [the] number one issue on most people's minds," Congresswoman Dingell said.
After Republicans let the Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits expire at the end of last year and cut $1 trillion from Medicaid in their 2025 tax law, an increasing number of Americans are being left without health insurance and with higher costs.
"People are … not going to the doctor" because they're afraid of the bill, Congresswoman Dingell added. "[People are] putting it off and showing up at the emergency rooms when they're far sicker."
The congresswoman ended the conversation by discussing her two landmark pieces of legislation, the Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Access Act and the Long-Term Care Workforce Support Act, two bills designed to strengthen home care access and the caregiving workforce.
