Washington, D.C. - U.S. Representative Derek Tran (CA-45) voted in favor of H.Con.Res.108, a War Powers Resolution to block further military action in Lebanon without Congressional authorization.
"Today, I voted to uphold Congress' Constitutional authority over war-making. This resolution recognizes the grave urgency to protect our troops abroad, safeguard American families, and preserve the global alliances that make our country safer and more prosperous. I'm committed to preserving the separation of powers and fighting to keep our families at home and service members abroad safe," said Representative Tran.
The resolution was introduced by Representative Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) and would require President Trump to remove armed forces from Lebanon within 7 days of the resolution passing. The resolution did not pass in a vote of 189-235.
Serving his first term in Congress, Representative Tran serves on the powerful House Armed Services Committee, overseeing the Department of Defense. Following offensive U.S. military actions against Iran conducted without Congressional oversight in June 2025, Tran cosponsored a Congressional war powers resolution reaffirming that Congress, not the executive branch, reserves the right to declare war. He voted in favor of H.Con.Res 86, a War Powers Resolution to block further military action in Iran without Congressional authorization, passed the House of Representatives in a vote of 215-208. He also voted in favor of H.Con.Res. 38, H.Con.Res. 40 and H.Con.Res. 75, asserting constitutional authority over war-making in response to the start of the conflict in Iran, and helped to introduce the No Funds for Iran War Act that would prohibit the use of additional taxpayer dollars to fund the Iran war. Tran serves as a co-chair of the House Democratic Caucus National Security Task Force, bringing together expertise in Congress to develop policy solutions to the most pressing national security challenges facing our country. Representative Tran enlisted in the Army Reserve at age 18 and served for eight years. He was activated for Operation Noble Eagle/Enduring Freedom before earning an honorable discharge.
