Ascension Wisconsin successfully delivered free, essential healthcare services, screenings, and support directly to communities in Milwaukee, Racine, and Appleton at its Medical Mission at Home events on Saturday, May 2.
Rooted in Ascension's Mission, the one-day event brought compassionate, high-quality care beyond traditional clinical settings, removing barriers for individuals who are uninsured, underinsured, or facing challenges accessing care.
Care teams provided services at no cost, including comprehensive physical exams with primary care physicians, specialty screenings, and respiratory and physical therapy. Patients also received no-cost prescriptions, with medications donated by Dispensary of Hope and dispensed by Ascension Rx pharmacists. The Milwaukee site additionally offered critical dental services.
Beyond clinical care, attendees received spiritual care and connected with trusted community organizations for ongoing support. Participants received bags of non-perishable food, shoes, and children went home with teddy bears. "Our Medical Mission at Home is a powerful expression of our mission in action," said Andy Santos, Chief Mission Integration Officer, Ascension Wisconsin. "Access to care remains a significant challenge for many in our communities. By stepping beyond our walls, we meet people where they are, remove barriers, and create meaningful pathways to better health. The dignity and hope restored in these moments are what inspire our volunteers to serve."
More than 600 volunteers made the effort possible, including Ascension physicians, nurses, pharmacists, chaplains, associates, and many community partners.
"I haven't seen a doctor in years because of the cost and I lost my insurance," said one participant. "Being able to receive a full physical, dental screening and prescriptions, all in one place at no cost, is a tremendous blessing. This day made a real difference for my family."
Ascension Wisconsin remains committed to improving community health and expanding access to care by continuing to serve those most in need.
