On July 9, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, during a working trip to the cities and districts of the Sughd Province, visited the construction site of the metallurgical plant of the Tajik Metallurgical Combine in the Bobojon Ghafurov district.
According to the construction plan, the construction work of this plant will be carried out in two stages:
The first stage began on April 1, 2025. During this stage, the production of iron concentrate and ore will be launched and will be completed in September 2027.
The second stage will be completed in 2029, during which the production of Fe-90% iron briquettes, blooms, and reinforcement will be launched.
This plant will be built within the Shohqadam iron ore deposit.
In the case of conducting additional geological studies by the Australian company "WOOD" in three areas of the Shohqadam iron ore deposit, namely Central, Eastern, and Western, research has been conducted, and the deposit's reserves have been confirmed to date at 59 million tons.
According to the development and mining plan, the volume of open pit operations in the first year will include up to 12 million tons, of which 2.5 million tons will be mined. Of this volume, 1.1 million tons of iron concentrate with a content of 63-68% will be obtained. Then 1.1 million tons of iron concentrate will be reprocessed and slag will be produced from it.
In the second stage, slag processing will be carried out, from which 850 thousand tons of iron briquettes - Fe-90% will be produced. In the final stage, iron briquettes (GBZh) - Fe-90% will undergo a smelting process, from which blooms, as well as reinforcement, will be produced in the amount of up to 300 thousand tons per year.
The investor and developer of the enterprise is the Tajik Metallurgical Plant, and the main contractor is the NETS company of the People's Republic of China. This company is responsible for the production of concentrate, pellets, blooms, and reinforcement.
Another contractor involved in the implementation of the project is Electroterm, one of the largest Indian companies, which has adopted the technology for the production of iron briquettes - Fe-90%. This company operates and cooperates in more than 32 countries around the world.
Lisen Company of the People's Republic of China, together with the Tajik Metallurgical Plant, are the main contractors for the construction of the mentioned enterprise.
SPS Austria has been involved as a consulting company, responsible for the quality and supervision of construction work as well as the quality of equipment.
In addition, in cooperation with NETS, it is planned to build and commission a 90 MW power plant on the territory of the mine.
The enterprise was built and put into operation in full compliance with environmental requirements and standards, and the modern technology used in it does not harm the environment.
It is worth noting that the equipment, machinery, and other construction materials used in the implementation of the project fully meet international standards, and the latest modern technology is used in the production process.
To ensure the smooth operation of the enterprise, the necessary infrastructure has been established. In particular, to date, a 220 kV high-voltage power line has been laid for a distance of 14.3 km. with an electrical substation, a water line for a distance of 17.5 km. with four pumping stations. At the same time, the construction and expansion of the main highway to the Shohqadam iron ore mine from the town of Sayhun to a distance of 20 km has begun, and excavation work is currently underway to expand the road.
To date, the enterprise's administrative building has been built, and a dormitory, canteen, and other necessary working conditions have been prepared to provide comfortable living and recreation conditions for employees and builders.
Currently, construction work is underway at the plant around the clock, employing more than 1,200 local and foreign specialists.
After the first phase of the plant is operational, 900 permanent jobs with good salaries will be created, and after the plant is fully operational, more than 1,500 permanent jobs with good salaries will be created.
The Head of State, Emomali Rahmon, recalled that in 2025, Tajikistan imported $600 million worth of reinforcement from abroad. It was stated that now we have the opportunity to establish the production of reinforcement and other iron products within the country.
The Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, instructed that the first stage of the enterprise be put into operation by September 2027.
The second stage of the enterprise should be put into operation by 2029, according to the plan. The Head of State instructed to accelerate the construction of the second stage of the enterprise so that it can start operating ahead of schedule.
