SEMO Community Gathers to Mark 25 Years Since Sept. 11

SEMO's annual Patriot Day commemoration brought the campus community together for a morning of remembrance and reflection. The ceremony included participation from Cape Girardeau County first responders, SEMO students, faculty and staff, as well as a performance of the national anthem by the SEMO horn ensemble and "Taps" performed by a solo trumpeter.

"This ceremony gives us an opportunity to pause and remember the people we lost on Sept. 11, while also recognizing the first responders, service members and veterans who continue to serve," said Amanda Woods, SEMO's military and veterans service officer. "Twenty-five years later, it's still important that we take time to remember and make sure those stories are not forgotten."

The ceremony also recognized the role of local first responders and service members who continue to serve their communities. Their participation provided a local connection to a day that remains significant across the country.

For SEMO students, the annual ceremony offers an opportunity to learn about and reflect on an important moment in American history while recognizing the people who responded to its aftermath.

Twenty-five years after Sept. 11, SEMO continues to bring its campus and community together to remember those who were lost and recognize those who continue to serve.
