Staff at Bellway Thames Gateway raise and donate more than £60,000 for charities

Staff at Dartford-based housebuilder Bellway Thames Gateway have this year supported local and national charities with donations totalling more than £60,000.

Employees from the division, which is building new homes across Kent, Essex and London, have played golf, run, walked and biked miles to raise £57,000 for Bellway's national charity partner Cancer Research UK (CRUK) between January and October this year.

And a series of local charities have also benefitted from donations from the company totalling a further £3,300 over the past year.

Richard Burrows, Managing Director of Bellway Thames Gateway, said: "We are very proud of our long-standing and ongoing support for the incredible work of Cancer Research UK. They not only spearhead the search for a cure for cancer but also research ways cancer can be prevented and detected.

"As a socially responsible developer, we also reach out to local charities and organisations in the communities where we build new homes. We feel a tremendous sense of pride that so many of our employees embrace our charitable work and not only donate but give up their own time to tackle challenges and help organise fundraising events."

Bellway has been supporting CRUK nationally since 2016 and by the end of last year had raised more than £4 million for the charity. This year it hopes to reach the £5 million mark.

In October, the Thames Gateway division hosted a charity golf day at The Heron Country Club in Brentwood that raised £47,248 for CRUK, comprising £27,248 raised on the day and £20,000 in match-funding from Bellway.

Meanwhile, the trio of Mackenzie Sharp, a purchase ledger clerk, Julie Webb, a purchase ledger supervisor, and Agha Haider, a divisional accountant, raised £2,160 by taking on the Big Hike 2025 for CRUK in June.

Donations to local charities this year have included £500 to support the end-of-life care provided by St Luke's Hospice in Basildon and Thurrock, which supports more than 2,700 patients a year across 16 patient-facing services.A group of women standing in front of a building

Gemma Woodhurst, Corporate Fundraising Officer at St Luke's Hospice, said: "We are very grateful to Bellway for its generous donation of £500 which will help us to carry on providing specialist palliative and end-of-life care to the communities we serve through our hospices in Basildon and Thurrock."

Other beneficiaries of donations have included Ellenor Hospice in North Kent and Bexley, The Chartwell Children's Cancer Trust in Biggin Hill, New Avenues in Dartford, MammaKind in south-east London, Polly's Pad at Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity, and the Maudsley Charity in south London.
