Voltu Motor Launches Full-Scale Commercial Deployment of Heavy-Duty Electric Trucks, Creating Hundreds of Jobs and Advancing Riverside's Leadership in Clean Transportation
RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Voltu Motor Inc. celebrated the start of production and first customer delivery of the Voltu3 heavy-duty electric truck at its global headquarters, Voltu Forge One - Riverside, marking a major milestone for both the company and the City of Riverside.
In a landmark demonstration of public-private partnership and innovation, the City of Riverside has become Voltu's first customer, taking delivery of the first production vehicles as the company begins full-scale commercial deployment of its groundbreaking heavy-duty electric truck platform.
The milestone represents the transition from development to commercial execution, with vehicles now rolling off the production line and entering service for real-world fleet operations.
Voltu's growth is expected to generate approximately 400 direct manufacturing, engineering, operations, and technology jobs over the next four years while supporting additional indirect jobs throughout the regional supply chain and local economy. At planned production capacity, Voltu Forge One - Riverside is expected to manufacture approximately 14,000 heavy-duty electric trucks, establishing Riverside as a significant center for advanced transportation manufacturing.
"Today marks far more than the start of production," said George Gebhart, CEO of Voltu Motor Inc. "It marks the beginning of a new chapter for heavy-duty transportation. The Voltu3 is no longer a prototype or a promise; it is now being manufactured, deployed, and put to work by customers who need uncompromising performance. We are especially proud that the City of Riverside, which welcomed and supported our vision from the beginning, is now our first customer."
The Voltu3 is the only true zero-emission, heavy-duty pickup truck engineered without compromise. Designed specifically for demanding commercial applications, the platform serves utilities, municipalities, service fleets, private operators, and energy companies that require full heavy-duty capability while reducing emissions and operating costs.
Built for real-world performance, the Voltu3 delivers heavy-duty towing and payload capability, up to 350 miles of range, and full upfit compatibility, allowing organizations to transition to zero-emission operations without disrupting mission-critical workflows.
Riverside Leads by Example
As both Voltu's headquarters city and inaugural customer, Riverside is demonstrating how local governments can accelerate innovation, support domestic manufacturing, and strengthen economic competitiveness.
Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson drove the first truck off the production line and emphasized the significance of the milestone for Riverside's future.
"Voltu represents exactly the type of innovative company Riverside is committed to attracting and supporting as we continue building one of California's leading green technology ecosystems," Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson said. "Their investment in advanced manufacturing, workforce development, and zero-emission transportation solutions is creating high-quality jobs while helping accelerate the transition to a cleaner economy. As a member of both the California Air Resources Board and the South Coast Air Quality Management District, I understand the challenges many municipalities face in meeting ambitious clean fleet requirements. Voltu is helping fill a critical gap in the marketplace by delivering practical, scalable solutions that will enable cities and public agencies to achieve their sustainability goals while shaping the future of transportation."
City leaders noted that Voltu's production launch reinforces Riverside's emergence as a destination for innovation and advanced industry.
"Riverside is becoming a recognized center for clean technology, advanced manufacturing, and transportation innovation," said Miranda Evans, Director of Community and Economic Development. "Companies are choosing Riverside because they see a city committed to supporting growth, innovation, and investment that moves at their speed. Voltu's production launch further validates that vision and positions Riverside as a model for communities seeking to build the industries of the future."
Mayor Pro Tem Steven Robillard highlighted the growing ecosystem of advanced transportation and clean-energy companies investing in the city.
"Voltu joins a growing ecosystem of innovative companies choosing Riverside as their home," Robillard said. "Together with industry leaders such as Chaevi, Hyundai Rotem, and Ohmio, they are helping establish Riverside as a hub for transportation innovation and advanced manufacturing. These investments are not only advancing technology, they are creating opportunities for local talent to build meaningful careers right here in Riverside. As we continue to grow this ecosystem, we remain committed to workforce development and ensuring that our residents have access to the jobs and industries shaping the future."
A New Model for Fleet Electrification
Beyond vehicle performance, the Voltu3 introduces Voltu's next-generation charging architecture, designed to reduce behind-the-fence charging infrastructure costs by more than 80 percent compared to conventional fleet charging systems.
The technology enables organizations to deploy electric fleets faster and with substantially lower capital investment, addressing one of the most significant barriers to fleet electrification and accelerating the transition to zero-emission transportation.
With production underway and commercial deployment now active, Voltu is positioned to help fleets across North America achieve sustainability goals without compromising capability, reliability, or operational performance.
As production scales toward approximately 14,000 heavy-duty electric trucks and 400 direct jobs over the next four years, Voltu is expected to become a major driver of economic growth in Riverside, generating new opportunities for workers, suppliers, contractors, and businesses throughout the region.
The City of Riverside is proud to be home to Voltu Forge One - Riverside and to serve as the launch customer for a company helping shape the future of American manufacturing, clean transportation, and economic development.
