Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., and New York City Police Department Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch today announced the indictment of seven individuals allegedly of the "Up The Hill" ("UTH") crew, located on the Lower East Side, for allegedly conspiring to possess firearms and murder rivals between June 2024 and December 2025. The defendants allegedly committed seven different shootings in residential areas, injuring a bystander and endangering numerous New Yorkers.
Six individuals are charged in a New York State Supreme Court indictment with one count each of Conspiracy in the Second Degree for the alleged murder conspiracy. All of the defendants are charged with one count of Conspiracy in the Fourth Degree for the alleged weapons conspiracy. In total, they are collectively charged with 33 counts, including various counts of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. "This indictment alleges a coordinated pattern of violence spanning several months, during which the defendants repeatedly armed themselves and targeted rivals in residential areas, putting countless New Yorkers at risk," and said District Attorney Bragg. "As we further allege, the defendants used social media to provoke rivals, glorify gun violence and escalate tensions, fueling a dangerous cycle of retaliation. We are committed to disrupting these senseless cycles to protect our communities, and thanks to our coordination with the NYPD and other law enforcement partners, these individuals are now facing accountability."
"The 'Up the Hill' crew brought violence to our streets and put innocent New Yorkers at risk - and today several of these gang members have been indicted on charges ranging from attempted murder, conspiracy, robbery, criminal weapons possession, and more," said NYPD Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch. "This case demonstrates our precision policing strategy in action: recovering guns, dismantling gangs, and deploying our officers where and when they are needed most. I thank the NYPD detectives who worked on this case and the Manhattan District Attorney's Office for their partnership in this long-term investigation."
As alleged in court documents and statements made on the record, "UTH" is based on the Lower East Side, and the defendants all have family or social ties to the Lower East Side. One of its main rivals, the "Down The Hill" ("DTH") crew, mainly operates in NYCHA's Wald Houses and Baruch Houses, which are in Alphabet City and on the Lower East Side. To assert their status, the defendants allegedly conspired to obtain firearms in order to shoot their rivals. In furtherance of the conspiracy, the defendants allegedly coordinated the purchasing and exchange of firearms via text messages and group chats. As alleged, they also used social media to post videos depicting themselves with guns and to taunt and intimidate rivals.
The indictment alleges seven different shooting incidents involving six of the named defendants acting in concert. The allegations in the indictment are:
On June 26, 2024, at approximately 2:57 a.m., SINCERE MCCLAIN, 19, and three co-conspirators left a building near Montgomery Street and Madison Street and traveled to "DTH" territory, where they vandalized a candlelight memorial for a deceased member of "DTH." At 3:21 a.m., MCCLAIN and the co-conspirators went to East 6th Street and FDR Drive, where the co-conspirators fired over 20 shots, striking a bystander in the lower left leg and causing other bystanders to flee for safety. As MCCLAIN and the co-conspirators fled the scene, MCCLAIN posted an Instagram story taunting "DTH," stating, "why ya running."
The following day, on June 27, 2024, at approximately 3:05 a.m., MCCLAIN posted a video to Instagram showing himself and co-conspirators kicking and throwing candles from the candlelight memorial for the same deceased "DTH" crew member while MCCLAIN visibly carried a gun in his waistband.
On August 22, 2024, at approximately 10:50 p.m., MCCLAIN, JAHLIK EDMONDS, and two co-conspirators met at a building near Montgomery Street and Madison Street where they changed into dark clothing. MCCLAIN, EDMONDS and the co-conspirators traveled to "DTH" territory, near East 10th Street and Avenue D. At approximately 11:28 p.m., MCCLAIN and a co-conspirator each shot at an individual riding a scooter. The following day, at approximately 8:00 p.m., EDMONDS and a co-conspirator appeared in an Instagram story in which they antagonized "DTH" by referring to deceased rivals and said "I don't even know who to smoke."
On August 29, 2024, at approximately 10:46 p.m., EDMONDS, MCCLAIN and a co-conspirator met at a building near Rutgers Street and Madison Street and eventually rode a Citi bike to "DTH" territory. At 11:39 p.m., they got off the bike and MCCLAIN fired shots towards a rival.
On December 10, 2024, at approximately 12:45 a.m., TYSEAN YOUNG, 19, and a co-conspirator traveled to "DTH" territory in NYCHA's Baruch Houses. A few minutes later, YOUNG and the co-conspirator acted in concert to fire shots in the area before fleeing the scene. At approximately 1:00 a.m., the co-conspirator posted an Instagram story depicting him and YOUNG with their faces obscured with a caption taunting rivals.
On December 17, 2024, at approximately 7:40 p.m., JERMEL SINGLETON, 18, and a co-conspirator exchanged messages on Instagram discussing purchasing a gun for between $500 and $600.
On March 8, 2025, at approximately 8:30 p.m., a co-conspirator fired a shot outside of a building in "DTH" territory near East Houston Street and Baruch Drive.
On April 20, 2025, a candlelight memorial for a deceased member of "UTH" was vandalized. At approximately 12:40 a.m., a co-conspirator called for retaliation in an Instagram group chat that included two indicted co-conspirators, with one of them responding, "@everyone wtf we doin."
On April 21, 2025, at approximately 1:11 a.m., SINGLETON and three indicted co-conspirators traveled to NYCHA's Wald Houses at 1:11 a.m., where they fired shots towards the lobby of the building. One of the firearms was previously used in the alleged shooting on March 8, 2025.
On April 27, 2025, at approximately 1:12 a.m., two indicted co-conspirators and three additional co-conspirators traveled to NYCHA's Baruch Houses. Two of the co-conspirators fired shots near a residential building before everyone fled the scene.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant D.A.s Dylan Los Huertos (Trial Bureau 70) and Elizabeth Sheehan (Trial Bureau 70), under the supervision of Assistant D.A.s Pierre Griffith (Chief of the Violent Criminal Enterprises Unit) and Christopher Prevost (Deputy Chief of the Trial Division) and Executive Assistant D.A. Lisa DelPizzo (Chief of the Trial Division). Investigative Analysts Rohaan Vaswani (VCEU), Brooke Booska (VCEU), and Trial Preparation Assistant Hope Swetow (Trial Bureau 70) are assisting with the case.
D.A. Bragg also thanked the New York City Police Department, particularly Detective Leeani Capote and Police Officer Cristopher Dominguez of the NYPD Gun Violence Suppression Unit, Detective Danielle Venuto of Manhattan South Homicide, and Detective Michael Poulsen of the 7th Precinct Detective Squad. Invaluable assistance was also provided by Detectives Jordan Grullon (7th Precinct Detective Squad) and Stanley Manel (9th Precinct Detective Squad).
