Introducing the Colorado Digital ID™ Verifier in myColorado®

DENVER, Dec. 19, 2025 - This week, the Governor's Office of Information Technology released the new Colorado Digital ID Verifier for businesses and government entities at all levels, enabling them to verify the authenticity of Colorado Digital IDs within the myColorado app and enhance security for its users. Going forward, the state recommends that anyone seeking to verify an individual's identity use the Colorado Digital ID Verifier rather than relying solely on the image for verification.

Here is how it works: Coloradans simply present a secure QR code, and the verifying party (e.g., a business or state agency) scans it to confirm authenticity using their own myColorado app's Colorado Digital ID Verifier functionality. A successful scan confirms an authentic Digital ID issued by the Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles through the myColorado app. If a "Verification failed" message is received, businesses should request to see a different form of identification, such as a physical driver license, state-issued ID or passport.

The Colorado Digital ID Verifier provides enhanced protection against illegal and counterfeit Digital IDs, without requiring individuals to create new accounts or share sensitive personal data. Verifying parties only see the Digital ID holder's legal name and driver license or ID number. The result is a solution that strengthens trust in digital identity, reduces fraud risk and makes it easier for Coloradans, businesses and government agencies to use the Colorado Digital ID with confidence.

myColorado offers several other ways to verify the authenticity of a holder's Digital ID in addition to the new Colorado Digital ID Verifier. Another helpful method is the Digital ID's built-in "Live View" feature, launched this summer. Live View enhances the efficacy of visual Digital ID checks with a pulsating green dot indicator, the current date and a timestamp that updates every second.

Information about the Colorado Digital ID Verifier, and the other safeguards available to verifying parties is available on the myColorado.gov website.
