The University of Pittsburgh maintained its position as one of the top 35 public universities in the nation, and improved its rank among all universities, from 70 to 69, in U.S. News & World Report's 2026 edition of its National Universities Rankings.
In U.S. News' latest rankings of American universities, Pitt boasts a top 10 nursing program and top 50 programs in business, economics and psychology. The University is also recognized as one of the nation's top 50 for veterans.
"Pitt's U.S. News rankings are a reflection of the strength, talent and dedication across our University community," said Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor Joe McCarthy. "Moving up to No. 69 among all universities and being a top 35 public university underscores the progress we are making. I'm especially proud to see our programs earning national distinction - with nursing ranked in the top 10 and business, economics and psychology in the top 50. These results highlight Pitt's momentum and our shared commitment to academic excellence and impact."
"We are proud to have our Bachelor of Science in Nursing program once again recognized as one of the very best in the country," added Anantha Shekhar, Pitt's senior vice chancellor for the health sciences and the John and Gertrude Petersen Dean of the School of Medicine. "The School of Nursing trains students in a rigorous, research-oriented program so they are prepared to shine in clinical settings, while also cultivating the commitment to patient care that is central to their field. This ranking is a testament to the hard work of our faculty, staff and students."
