Attorney General Weiser statement on court decision to fully fund SNAP food benefits

Nov. 7, 2025 (DENVER) - Attorney General Phil Weiser released the following statement regarding a federal appeals court ruling requiring the USDA to fully fund SNAP food benefits:

"I am grateful that the First Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston has left in place a court order requiring the USDA to fully fund SNAP food benefits during the federal government shutdown. It's time for the Trump administration to stop messing around with people's lives and well-being in such a cruel and inexplicable manner. Issuance of these benefits is required by law, and the federal government has a legal and moral obligation to send funds to the state so that the more than 600,000 Coloradans who receive SNAP benefits can feed themselves or their families. Colorado needs to receive its share of federal SNAP dollars soon, and we will do all we can to make that happen.

"Today's court ruling is an example of why the rule of law is fundamental to American democracy, and I will continue to hold the Trump administration accountable when they violate the law and harm Colorado."

Last week, Attorney General Weiser joined 22 other attorneys general and three governors in filing a separate lawsuit against the USDA and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins for illegally suspending the SNAP program during the federal government shutdown despite the availability of contingency funds.
