Forsyth County Recognized as a WaterFirst Community for 15th Consecutive Year

Forsyth County was again recognized by the State of Georgia as a WaterFirst community, a designation it has held since 2010. Being a WaterFirst community demonstrates Forsyth County's commitment to excellence in responsible water stewardship, planning, management and conservation among other areas.

"We are proud to be recognized and commended by Gov. Kemp for the hard work the County's water & sewer professionals put in every day to ensure clean, reliable and well-managed water infrastructure is available to our residents," said Department of Water & Sewer Director Scott Adams. "We value and recognize the many partnerships that help make our water system one of the state's best."

In total, only 55 of the over 500 utilities across Georgia were recognized as WaterSmart Communities. The County's first recognition was in 2010. More information can be found at gefa.georgia.gov/waterfirst.

Among other benefits, designated communities receive:

• A 1% interest rate reduction for Georgia Environmental Finance Authority loans
• Bonus points on GEFA scoring for applications
• Annual eligibility for DCA Community Block Development Grants for water-related projects
• Priority for EPD 319 Grant funding

• Wastewater treatment and management
• Water supply planning
• Water supply protection
• Water conservation
• Water reclamation and reuse
• Educational outreach
• Regional Water Planning
