Bringing Stories to Life on ELF Reading Day 2025

Bringing Stories to Life on ELF Reading Day 2025

Published on 25 September 2025

On Friday 19 September, the main street of Alexandra was filled with colour, stories and fun for its 20th ELF Reading Day.

Teachers, children and families dressed as their favourite characters and visited reading stations where volunteers, including local business owners, Council staff, students from Alexandra Secondary College and other community members, shared stories and engaged children in reading, learning and play.

Council thanks all volunteers and community members who contributed to the event, as well as the wider community for driving safely and helping ensure the day ran smoothly.

Deputy Mayor Anita Carr, who read to young students on the day in her Super Mario costume, said the event was a highlight of the local calendar.

"ELF Reading Day is an opportunity for the community to come together, celebrate literacy and inspire children to enjoy reading from an early age. We are grateful to everyone who helped make the day a positive experience for families," Cr Carr said.

ELF Reading Day continues to support language and literacy skills from birth and remains a valued event for schools, kindergartens, childcare service and playgroup in Alexandra.

Council looks forward to welcoming the community again next year.
