"We are very pleased to be opening new bookstores across the United States," said James Daunt, CEO of Barnes & Noble. "It has been 15 years since the Borders closed in Strongsville and we now restore a dramatically large, full-scale bookstore to the same location. There is an unmatched excitement to bookstores of this ambition. Our Strongsville bookselling team are creating a fabulous bookstore and look forward to welcoming customers into their brand-new Barnes & Noble."

Barnes & Noble is enjoying a period of tremendous growth as the strategy to hand control of each bookstore to its local booksellers has proven so successful. The bookseller is experiencing strong sales in its existing stores and has been opening many new stores after more than 15 years of declining store numbers.

Having fallen below 600 locations as recently as 2023, it now has over 700 bookstores. In 2025, Barnes & Noble opened more new bookstores in a single year than it had in the whole decade from 2009 to 2019. The bookseller will open over 60 new bookstores in 2026.

This new Barnes & Noble is one of three to open this month, alongside one in Katy, TX which also will open on January 28th, following the recently opened store on F Street in Washington, D.C. Despite wintry weather, each grand opening has drawn enthusiastic crowds that wrap around the building, filling the store as the ribbon is cut.

Store Manager Chris Holbert has a special place in his heart for Barnes & Noble, having shared his first date with his wife at a Barnes & Noble nearly 20 years ago. He is as excited to bring a new Barnes & Noble to the Strongsville as the community is to welcome the store. Chris commented, "I am truly thrilled to bring a new bookstore to the Strongsville area, filling the void left when Borders shut down years ago. When the City of Strongsville announced we were opening, we received overwhelming positivity from the local community."
