Public Works Week in Review for November 13, 2025

The Public Works Department is made up of various sub-departments including Fleet, Line Repair, Streets/Stormwater and Traffic, Wastewater, and Water. Each week, over 140 employees are responsible for the maintenance, monitoring, and improvement of existing and new infrastructure across League City which includes everything from roadways and traffic lights to storm drains, sewers, and water production.

Below are some tips and projects they are working on:

Stormwater Maintenance Robinsons Gully

Stormwater crews have begun flowline maintenance and slope repairs along Robinson's Gully, from Walker Street to Texas Avenue. As the mowing season winds down, crews have repurposed one of our long-boom track excavators by removing its mowing deck and installing a dredging bucket. This specialized bucket allows water to drain as silt and vegetation are removed from the flowline. Ongoing maintenance of these outfalls is essential to ensure proper drainage throughout the city.

Public Safety Vehicle Maintenance and Repair

Fleet Maintenance remains committed to ensuring the operational readiness of all City Public Safety vehicles through prioritized preventative maintenance and timely repairs. A Police Department unit was brought in for its regularly scheduled preventative maintenance, accompanied by concerns regarding reduced engine power. During the service, a comprehensive inspection was conducted to identify the root cause of the performance issue. The inspection revealed a failure in the vehicle's turbochargers. In response, the following components were replaced:

  • Both turbochargers
  • Catalytic converters
  • Resonator pipe
  • All associated gaskets

Upon completion of the repairs, the vehicle underwent a thorough road test to verify compliance with all departmental performance standards and operational requirements. The unit was successfully restored to full operational status and returned to service, continuing its vital role in supporting the League City Police Department.
