October 1, 2025
In anticipation of a potential work stoppage by Alberta teachers, the City of Edmonton is preparing to support families by offering Pop-Up Day Camps at several popular attractions, providing structured and engaging programming for children who may be impacted by school closures.
These supervised camps will provide a safe, active and educational environment for elementary-aged children between the ages of 6-12. Campers can look forward to a range of interactive activities, animal encounters and outdoor adventures at:
-
Edmonton Valley Zoo:Ages 6-10
-
Muttart Conservatory:Ages 6-10
-
John Walter Museum:Ages 6-10
-
Fort Edmonton Park:Ages 6-12
-
Whitemud Park:Outdoor Adventure camps for Ages 6-12
All camps will begin October 6 with the exception of Muttart Conservatory camps, which will start October 7. The City Arts Centre and John Janzen Nature Centre will not be hosting camps due to facility closures, maintenance and staffing resources.
These camps will only run if schools are closed due to a work stoppage. No payment is required to join the waitlists, which ensures families can reserve a spot without financial commitment. Waitlisted participants will be notified within 48-72 hours of a confirmed work stoppage if camps are scheduled. Payment will be required at the time of official registration.
Visit the Move Learn Play Day Camp directoryto browse the City's Day Camp programs and sign up for waitlists by selecting your preferred location. For Fort Edmonton Park camps, please visit FortEdmontonPark.cato join a waitlist. Participants will receive confirmation of enrollment according to their position on the waitlist.
These Pop-Up Day Camps are adapted from existing, popular day camps. While they are not a replacement for teachers, the camps will provide valuable learning opportunities for children and important childcare options for parents during an uncertain time
