Exploring the Village of Romeo

Part of the 'Day Out in Macomb County' series

The Village of Romeo is nothing short of beautiful. Main Street is lined with historic buildings that have been transformed into new, modern businesses with daily in-and-out traffic.

Recently, I had the opportunity to explore some of these places for myself.

It was a warm, sunny day and made for the perfect weather to walk around downtown Romeo. Eyeing all of the businesses as I drove through Main Street, I spotted a few that piqued my interest.

The first stop on my agenda was Town Hall Antiques. As soon as I stepped foot in the door, I was blown away. I was immediately greeted by three floors covered in antiques. I made my way through the maze of items, scanning every shelf, display and wall. A spinning shelving unit with postcards in it caught my eye. Picking up a few postcards, I noticed a pattern. They all had actual messages on them dating back to the 1900's. Letters from kids to parents, cousins to friends and even grandparents to their grandkids, these messages were fascinating. Stories of how life was going, where they had just visited and asking for mom to send them some money was just some of what I read.

As I continued to browse, the delicious smell of coffee filled my nose. Attached to Town Hall Antiques, and located inside an old bank, is Main's Treat Coffeehouse. With an assortment of drinks and foods on the menu, it was hard to choose just one thing. Finally settling for a breakfast sandwich, we sat down and enjoyed the atmosphere. Looking around, many of the "bank" aspects of the building were intact. The vault had been transformed into a beautiful sitting area, and the teller booth was still labeled.

Finishing my sandwich, we continued our stroll around town. Passing by Vera's Balloons R Fun and Thee Office Pub & Cookery, we made it into Rooted Apothecary. Instantly we were hit by an aroma of essential oils and greeted by the cutest dog named Acorn. After giving some "hello" pets to the dog, we looked around at all of the products they offer. Tea, elixirs, skincare, and immunity lotions lined all the shelves. We picked up a candle that scares off bugs, and a cream that heals pain and checked out. With a sad farewell to Acorn, we were off again.

This time we were on the opposite side of the street and passed by a few more businesses, Tech City Electronics and Meta-Morph Pilates Studio. Making it to our final destination for lunch, The Rustic Bluebird. Located inside a remodeled house, this place is incredible. They have a large menu that features sandwiches, wraps, bowls and more. Their drink menu is also large offering various coffees and lemonades. After careful consideration, we put in our orders and headed outside to find a table. Located right on Main Street and across from the library, we had plenty of people-watching to keep us occupied until our food came out. And when it did, it was so delicious that we devoured it in five minutes flat! Everything tasted so fresh as we washed it down with a strawberry lemonade that featured a pink rubber duck, and a sugar cookie latte.

With stuffed bellies and a bag full of antiques and a candle, we drove down Main Street one last time before we made our way home. The Village of Romeo is special. With such a variety of businesses and restaurants, there is something for everyone. We had such a great time exploring the community and so would you! Grab friends or family and head to Romeo and immerse yourself in all it has to offer.
