Homicide Investigation – Arrest: C25-300004

On December 12, 2025, just after 3:00 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a disturbance at a residence in the 1300 block of Arlington Street.

North District General Patrol officers arrived on scene and located a male who had succumbed from an apparent gunshot wound.

The Major Crimes Unit has assumed the investigation, and identified the deceased as 37-year-old Caleb Joshua JOHNSTON.

On December 15, 32-year-old Hugh Keith SWITZER was arrested by investigators and charged with the following offences:

  • Second Degree Murder
  • Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon, Firearm Part or Ammunition x 3
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm x 2

SWITZER is detained in police custody awaiting further disposition.
