Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs meets with a delegation of Members of Parliament and Senators of Malaysia

On 10 September 2026, Mrs. Sirilak Niyom, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, met with a delegation of Members of Parliament and Senators of Malaysia, who were paying a visit to Thailand from 10 - 12 September 2026 under the program of the Royal Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur to strengthen networks and promote awareness among Malaysian political leaders of Thailand's development directions. The program, which is being held for the third consecutive year, was organized under the theme "Connecting Strengths, Creating Opportunities: Thailand - Malaysia Parliamentary Engagement for a Shared Future," with H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, also in attendance.

The two sides exchanged views on advancing Thailand - Malaysia relations across various dimensions. The Deputy Permanent Secretary highlighted the dynamics of relations at the leaders' level, which have been an important driving force in translating bilateral cooperation into concrete progress, particularly following the official visit to Malaysia by H.E. Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister, on 9 - 10 July 2026, and the working visit to Malaysia by H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, on 6 - 7 September 2026. The two sides also discussed promoting border connectivity, including the Eastern and Western Corridors, strengthening border security, and advancing the development of Thailand's southern provinces and Malaysia's northern states, where the peoples on both sides share close cultural, religious, and family ties. They also underscored the role of the legislative branches in fostering greater understanding and mutual trust between the peoples of the two countries. As such, Thailand will host 16th Meeting of the Thailand - Malaysia Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JC) and the 7th Ministerial Meeting of the Thailand - Malaysia Committee on Joint Development Strategy for Border Areas (JDS) in October 2026 in Bangkok.

Malaysia is Thailand's largest trading partner in ASEAN, with the two countries setting a target of USD 30 billion in bilateral trade by 2027. The two countries will also celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in the same year.
