"Today, our Board and the entire regional water community are mourning the loss of our friend and colleague Gary Arant. Gary was a giant in the water industry, a man of both deep convictions and deep knowledge. For decades, his leadership and expertise helped guide our region through major challenges and major achievements with clarity, integrity, and a profound sense of responsibility to the people we serve.

"Gary's contributions were far-reaching - shaping policy, strengthening collaboration, advocating for farmers, and mentoring many who now carry forward the work he cared for so deeply. He brought not only technical knowledge and thoughtful perspectives, but also genuine respect for those around him. His legacy is woven into the fabric of our regional water community, and every resident of San Diego County owes him a debt of gratitude for his tireless commitment to providing our most basic need: water.
