Public Invited to a Fall Tree Walk at Virginia Lake Park on October 19

As the leaves begin to change in the Biggest Little City, it's the perfect time to enjoy a walk in the park!

Community members are invited to join Ward 2 Councilmember Naomi Duerr and local author and tree expert Rod Haulenbeek for a Fall Tree Walk at Virginia Lake Park on Sunday, October 19, at 11 a.m. Attendees are asked to meet at the north parking lot at Lymbery Street and Lakeside Drive for the start of festivities. This event is free to attend.

"I'm delighted to invite everyone in our community to join us at Virginia Lake Park for a special opportunity to learn about our incredible trees with arborist Haulenbeek," said Ward 2 Councilmember Naomi Duerr. "We are so fortunate to have such vibrant seasons and beautiful outdoor spaces in our City, and I look forward to sharing them with those who attend on October 19."

Participants will take a leisurely stroll around the lake while learning about the park's diverse tree specifies, their seasonal changes, and the role they play in our urban ecosystem. Since the event will be held outdoors, attendees are encouraged to check the weather forecast prior to arrival and dress accordingly.

Virginia Lake Park, located at 1980 Lakeside Drive, was created between 1938 and 1939 as part of a public works project during the Great Depression. The project was designed to provide recreation, flood control, and irrigation to the area. The park centers around Virginia Lake, a man-made body of water connected to the historic Cochran Ditch system. Today, the park remains a popular spot for walking, fishing, and enjoying nature.
