Agropur announces that it has reached an agreement with Lactalis for the sale of its fine cheese business. The transaction includes namely the Oka and Saint-Hyacinthe plants, as well as brands related to this product category.
This decision is part of Agropur's ongoing efforts to simplify and optimize its operations. Agropur aims to focus on strategic activities that generate the greatest value for its dairy farmer members, namely the production of fluid milk - including value-added milk - industrial cheese, butter and dairy ingredients.
This decision was carefully considered and is intended to strengthen the Cooperative's long-term competitiveness and ensure its sustainability. Although profitable, the fine cheese business represents only a small portion of Agropur's operations and only a minimal share of the milk it processes in Canada.
This decision will also allow us to strengthen our position as the dairy partner of choice for the food industry and continue offering healthy, high-quality products that meet the evolving needs of our customers.
Agropur acknowledges the historical importance of its fine cheese business in Québec and recognizes the expertise of employees who have contributed to this sector. The Cooperative will work closely with Lactalis to ensure an orderly transition for employees and partners.
The transaction remains subject to approval by regulatory authorities and to the customary, applicable closing conditions.
