Baker McKenzie elects new management in Germany

Anahita Thoms has been elected Country Managing Partner of Baker McKenzie Germany, effective 1 July 2026, for a term of three years. Anahita succeeds Dr. Alexander Wolff, who served as Country Managing Partner for three years. Effective 1 July 2026, Alexander will in turn join the Advisory Board in place of Anahita and assume its chairmanship.

In addition to her previous role as Chair of the Advisory Board of Baker McKenzie Germany, Anahita serves as Head of the Commercial Practice Group. She also leads Baker McKenzie's International Trade Practice in Germany and is Co-Head of the Global Crisis Management and Strategic Response Group.

Anahita Thoms is also actively involved as an advisory board member in both for-profit and non-profit organizations. She chairs the Sustainability Advisory Board of Fresenius, serves on the board of Atlantik-Brücke, is a member of the World Economic Forum's Global Future Council on Good Governance, and sits on UNICEF Germany's National Committee. She also served on the German Federal Government's Sustainable Finance Advisory Board and was Co-Chair of the ABA Export Controls and Economic Sanctions Committee.

Anahita has received numerous national and international awards for her legal work and her voluntary commitment.

On the recommendation of Anahita Thoms, the partnership has also elected Munich-based partner Dr. Nicolai Behr to Baker McKenzie's new Management Committee for the next three years. Nicolai (Partner, Compliance & Investigations) will be responsible for innovation and compliance.

On her new role, Anahita said: "I am delighted by the trust placed in me through this election. We are living in a time in which geopolitical conditions, economic realities and technological developments are all changing simultaneously and profoundly. Especially now, it is essential to provide guidance - through a clear stance, sound advice and genuine closeness to clients and teams. Baker McKenzie combines global strength with deep local roots. Our ambition is to connect these perspectives in a way that creates solutions that make a real difference for our clients. This is what I want to build on - together with our teams, with an entrepreneurial mindset and the ambition to continue developing our firm with purpose. As a firm that does not merely accompany change, but actively helps shape it."

"I warmly congratulate the new team and wish Anahita and Nicolai every success in the tasks ahead. It has been a tremendous honour to lead the German offices and I am pleased to hand over responsibility to our outstanding next generation and will continue to actively support the Firm's development as a member of the Advisory Board", said Dr. Alexander Wolff
