Two Fatalities Reported at 1550 Nebraska Ave Residential Fire

Toledo Fire & Rescue Department crews responded to a reported structure fire at 1550 Nebraska Avenue on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at 1:36 p.m. A 911 caller reported that the home at this location was on fire and was unsure if any occupants were inside.

Medic 4 arrived on scene at 1:37 p.m. and reported heavy smoke showing from the structure. Engine 16 arrived shortly after at 1:38 p.m., assumed command, and reported heavy fire conditions on Division 1 and the Delta side of the residence.

At approximately 1:40 p.m., Engine 16 crews initiated an aggressive interior attack, allowing firefighters to begin a primary search of the structure. Engine 21 was assigned to search, and Medic 16 was assigned as back-up, with water on the fire reported at 1:44 p.m.

Battalion 2 arrived on scene at 1:45 p.m. and assumed command. At 1:46 p.m., neighbors advised command that two occupants may have been inside the residence. Command requested two additional engines to stage at 1:51 p.m. as crews continued suppression and search operations.

During search operations, firefighters located one victim, an 8-year-old male, on Division 2 at approximately 1:53 p.m. An additional medic unit was requested at 1:55 p.m. The victim was transported by Medic 9, with assistance from Unit 123, to Toledo Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

At approximately 2:03 p.m., firefighters located a second victim, an adult female, inside the residence who was confirmed deceased at the scene.

Secondary searches were completed and confirmed no additional occupants inside the structure. The fire was deemed under control at 2:29 p.m.

The incident remains under investigation by the Toledo Fire & Rescue Department Fire Investigation Unit and the Toledo Police Department. Positive identification of the deceased and the official cause of death will be determined by the Lucas County Coroner's Office following an autopsy.

At the time of this release, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

This incident represents the second and third fire-related fatalities in the City of Toledo since January 1, 2026.
