"Estonia holds the presidency of the Baltic cooperation this year, and I am delighted to welcome my Latvian and Lithuanian colleagues to Tallinn. We will start the day, symbolically, at the site of the Rail Baltica Ülemiste terminal. Progress on the Estonian side has been good. We must all make an effort to ensure that the main line is completed by 2030. This is important for the economy and security of our region," said Prime Minister Michal.
On the subject of security, the meeting will focus on supporting Ukraine and putting pressure on Russia. "Crucial decisions to help Ukraine have been on hold in Europe for far too long. The change of government and a shift in direction in Hungary provide a good opportunity to move forward with them. We will also discuss cooperation and coordination to help mitigate the risks posed by drones more effectively. Together, we can achieve more," said Michal.
The meeting will also address the impact of the Middle East crisis on the economy. "We will discuss energy prices and how the situation in the Strait of Hormuz affects us. This discussion will continue on Friday afternoon in a video conference convened by French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer," said Michal.
At 12.50 p.m., a joint press conference by the Baltic prime ministers will take place in the press room of the Estonian Knighthood House; it will also be broadcast live in Estonian and English. Media access to the press conference is granted on the basis of prior accreditation.
