SEPTEMBER 12, 2025 - Statement from Amy Barela, Chairwoman of the Republican Party of New Mexico The world is seeing the heightened level of political theatre and rhetoric taking place on social media in the wake of the assassination of Charlie Kirk. The 1st Amendment is everyone's constitutional right. But it's time to tone down the rhetoric so no one else gets hurt. Members of Indivisible Las Cruces, a chapter of Indivisible.org, think that staging protests outside the Republican Party of Doña Ana County headquarters will put "pressure on President Trump and his policies". This is yet another reminder that the Left continues its relentless attempts to silence those who have different ideas about how to save our country and put New Mexicans first. Here is an example in Las Cruces of rhetoric that needs to be toned down for the safety of everyone. Their ongoing protests on the streets of Lohman and Walnut have accomplished little, so now they are considering escalating by targeting our headquarters directly. Indivisible Las Cruces believes that shaming can be an effective tool by putting pressure on the Republican Party of Doña Ana County, framing us as socially unacceptable, morally wrong, attempting to force us to change our behavior, and preventing us from speaking out. Their actions do just the opposite. Silencing opposing voices, intimidating community members, and attacking those with different beliefs strips away freedom rather than protecting it. With the tragic murder of Charlie Kirk still fresh in our hearts, we see more attempts at disruption and intimidation. Instead of engaging in honest dialogue and respectful debate, groups like Indivisible Las Cruces choose to obstruct and silence. Why? Is it because they have no real message? Is it because they believe they can silence us all? It is time we all rise above these tactics. We implore people to come together with solutions, rooted in love, kindness, and respect for one another. Our country is stronger when we listen to each other, when we seek understanding, and when we work side by side to build a better future. Both sides believe deeply in what they stand for, whether we agree with each other or not. But progress is only made when we act with civility, listen with respect, and work together for the good of New Mexico and our nation. ### The Republican Party of New Mexico (RPNM) advances the ideals of individual liberties for the advancement of its citizens and the greater prosperity of our communities throughout New Mexico.
