Weekend update

Halifax Regional Police responded to 713 calls for service over the weekend. Some notable incidents are as follows:

Police charge man with impaired operation and drug offences

On October 3 at approximately 7:55 p.m., officers responded to a report of a possible impaired driver. It was noted that the vehicle had stopped in the centre of the road in the 900 block of Starboard Drive in Bedford. Upon arrival, officers observed a man in the driver's seat who appeared to be asleep.

When officers woke the man, he showed signs of impairment and was arrested.

During the investigation, officers located and seized a quantity of money and a quantity of drugs.

A 26-year-old man is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court at a later date to face charges of:

  • Operation of a conveyance while impaired to any degree by alcohol or drugs
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking
  • Resist arrest

Police charge man with impaired operation causing bodily harm

On October 3 at approximately 11:50 p.m., officers responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Main Avenue and Titus Street in Halifax. One of the drivers involved was observed fleeing the scene. The driver of the struck vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

At approximately 12:10 a.m., officers located the vehicle and the driver. While officers were speaking with the driver, he showed signs of impairment and was arrested without incident.

A 29-year-old man is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court at a later date to face charges of:

  • Operation of a conveyance while impaired causing bodily harm
  • Operation of a conveyance while impaired by alcohol over 80mg
  • Failure to stop after an accident resulting in bodily harm

Police charge man with flight from police and dangerous operation of a conveyance

On October 4 at approximately 9:20 a.m., officers observed a vehicle making a prohibited right turn at the intersection of Almon Street and Windsor Street in Halifax. When the officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, it accelerated to a high rate of speed and fled from police. Officers did not pursue for public safety concerns.

Through further investigation, officers located and arrested the driver on October 5 at approximately 3:35 p.m. without incident.

Refaat Halim Nasrallah, 43, is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court today to face charges of:

  • Flight from peace officer
  • Dangerous operation of a conveyance
  • Failure to comply with condition of release order
