I-80 Mississippi Rapids Rest Area briefly closes Sept. 10

ROCK ISLAND COUNTY - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that weather permitting, the Mississippi Rapids Rest Area on eastbound Interstate 80 will close on Thursday, Sept. 10. The closure will begin at 7 a.m., and the rest area is expected to reopen sometime after noon.

The closure is necessary to repair the weigh-in motion sensor located on eastbound I-80 between the rest area's exit and entrance ramps. One lane of eastbound I-80 will be open during this project.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area when feasible, the use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
