The University of Wisconsin-Madison is offering resources and support to UW students who may have been impacted by an off-campus criminal incident on Friday night.
There is no ongoing threat to safety.
At approximately 11:15 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, UW-Madison Police and the Madison Police Department responded to reports of a shooting on the 200 block of Langdon St., several blocks from campus, according to Madison Police reports.
A preliminary MPD investigation revealed that the incident involved a large physical altercation in the street and a single gunshot. One 18-year-old victim was transported to a local hospital where they were treated and released. A second victim sustained minor injuries.
Multiple UWPD Off Campus Alerts about the incident were issued overnight through the BadgerSafe app.
With the assistance of UWPD, officers took one 18-year-old suspect who is not affiliated with UW-Madison into custody nearby.
UW leaders are also expressing their appreciation to first responders from UWPD, Madison Police, Madison Fire, all of whom quickly responded to the scene.
