ABC Applauds Senate for Confirming Keith Sonderling as Secretary of Labor

WASHINGTON, Sept. 30-Associated Builders and Contractors today applauded the U.S. Senate's confirmation of Keith Sonderling to serve as secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor by a vote of 47-41.

"ABC congratulates Secretary Sonderling on his well-deserved confirmation and commends the Senate for recognizing his strong record of leadership and commitment to America's workers and job creators," said Kristen Swearingen, ABC vice president of government affairs. "Secretary Sonderling is uniquely qualified to lead the DOL, and throughout his public service he has demonstrated a clear understanding of the challenges facing workers and employers across the country.

"ABC looks forward to continuing to work with Secretary Sonderling to expand workforce development opportunities, protect worker choice, provide regulatory clarity for employers and ensure that America's construction industry has the skilled workforce needed to build our nation's future," said Swearingen.

ABC strongly supported Sonderling's nomination throughout the confirmation process. In July, ABC urged the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee to advance his nomination, and the ABC-led Coalition for a Democratic Workplace led more than 50 employer organizations in calling for his swift confirmation. ABC and CDW also urged Senate leadership to bring Sonderling's nomination before the full Senate. Ahead of the final confirmation vote, ABC issued a Key Vote letter supporting Sonderling's confirmation informing senators that the vote would be included in ABC's 119th Congress Scorecard.
