UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island Nationally Recognized for Heart Failure Care

Oct 28, 2026
UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island is now one of just 50 hospitals nationwide to earn Heart Failure Accreditation from the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the first in the Quad Cities to achieve this accreditation. The recognition reflects UnityPoint Health's commitment to providing high-quality, evidence-based care for patients living with heart failure.

Trinity Rock Island earned Heart Failure Accreditation in October 2026 following a rigorous onsite review of how its care teams evaluate, diagnose and treat people with heart failure. The review examined the full continuum of care, including pre-hospital care, early stabilization, acute and transitional care, and clinical quality measures.

For patients in the Quad Cities, the accreditation means access to a coordinated heart failure care team that follows evidence-based standards from diagnosis and treatment through the transition home. The team also provides education and ongoing support to help patients understand their condition and manage their care.

"We're incredibly proud of this recognition because it shows the commitment our teams make to patients every day," says Kathy Pulley, director of cardiovascular operations, UnityPoint Health - Trinity. "Living with heart failure can be challenging, and patients deserve a team they can count on. Our physicians, nurses and care teams work together to provide high-quality care, answer questions and support patients throughout their care, close to home."

Heart failure is a chronic and progressive condition where the heart is unable to pump enough blood to meet the body's needs for blood and oxygen. Hospitals that follow proven, evidence-based standards can help patients get treatment faster, better identify those at higher risk and reduce unnecessary hospital stays and readmissions.

"UnityPoint Health has shown a strong commitment to delivering outstanding heart care to the Quad Cities community," says Steven B. Deitelzweig, MD, MMM, FACC, chair of the ACC Accreditation Management Board. "ACC Accreditation Services is proud to recognize Trinity Heart Center with Heart Failure Accreditation."

Hospitals receiving Heart Failure Accreditation from the ACC must take part in a multi-faceted clinical process that involves completing a gap analysis; examining variances of care, developing an action plan; a rigorous onsite review; and monitoring for sustained success. Improved methods and strategies of caring for patients include streamlining processes, implementing guidelines and standards, and adopting best practices in the precise care of heart failure patients. Facilities that achieve accreditation meet or exceed an array of stringent criteria and have organized a team of doctors, nurses, clinicians and other administrative staff that earnestly support the efforts leading to better patient education, improved patient outcomes, and more effective and efficient disease control.

"We're incredibly proud of this recognition because it shows the commitment our teams make to patients every day. Living with heart failure can be challenging, and patients deserve a team they can count on."
