The City of Marion and community volunteers will plant 250 trees throughout the community this fall in celebration of the 250th Anniversary of the United States.
"Planting a tree is an investment that will benefit our community for generations," said Marion Mayor Nick AbouAssaly. "We invite residents of all ages to be part of this special milestone for our country and our community."
Two planting opportunities are open to community volunteers, while a third event will engage local high school students. Marion's Urban Forestry Division will share proper planting techniques and oversee each event.
Those interested in helping with the planting effort are encouraged to sign up in advance so that the appropriate supplies can be provided. Volunteers should dress for outdoor conditions. Previous experience is not necessary.
