Hall County Fire Rescue (HCFR) is once again supporting a powerful cause -the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation Boot Drive. On three upcoming Fridays, Sept. 19, Sept. 26 and Oct. 3, firefighters will be at various locations throughout Hall County with boots in hand, collecting donations to support burn victims across Georgia.
Every dollar donated goes directly to the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation, which provides aid to burn survivors, supports burn centers, promotes fire and life safety education, and funds Camp Oo-U-La, a life-changing summer camp for children ages 7 to 17 who have experienced serious burn injuries.
Camp Oo-U-La offers a fun environment where burn-injured children can heal in their physical and emotional recovery, connect with a support group of peers with similar stories, and learn ways to process and cope with their challenges. They learn to acknowledge, validate, and honor their experiences. It is truly "fun with a purpose."
Hall County Fire Marshal, Michael Vieira, shared his pride in the community's generosity:
"I am very proud of the community I serve. Hall County citizens and visitors have graciously donated over $630,000 to the Burn Foundation Boot Drive since 2016. That's an incredible impact that has changed many lives."
The Boot Drive is a statewide tradition, with fire departments competing to raise the most funds. HCFR held the top spot for eight consecutive years, narrowly missing first place last year by $3,000.
"I believe the people of our community have a caring heart and they want to help others, and donating to the Boot Drive is one way to do that," Vieira said. "Generosity is a blessing. It feels good to be a cheerful giver and to donate to a cause that's bigger than yourself."
Residents and visitors are encouraged to keep an eye out for HCFR firefighters over the next three Fridays and contribute to this worthwhile cause. Donations can also be made in person at your local fire station or the Hall County Fire Rescue Headquarters located at 470 Crescent Drive, Gainesville.
Together, let's bring hope, healing, and joy to burn survivors across Georgia.
