Mayor Releases Statement on Trump’s Targeting of Undocumented Students

Mayor Mike Johnston today released the following statement on President Donald Trump and the Department of Justice's targeting of a Colorado law that allows undocumented students to attend college at in-state tuition rates. Mayor Johnston, who previously served as a principal and Colorado State Senator, sponsored the law in 2013.

"I sponsored this legislation for students like mine. Students who worked as hard and dreamed as big as anyone else, and were then told they didn't count as Coloradans," said Mayor Mike Johnston. "This is a slap in the face to countless Colorado children who have grown up believing the American Dream also applied to them. It's cruel and unnecessary, and we will fight it every step of the way."
